How do I use a TENS machine?

By planetpregnancy

If you’re a technophobe, one look at a TENS unit could have you running for the hills. But the battery-powered machines can be great for early labour, emitting tiny electrical pulses that block pain signals from your brain.
There are 4 electrodes (sticky pads) connected to the unit with wires. You stick 2 to the middle of your back, either side of your spine and two on your lower back. Two knobs control; the strength and frequency of the electrical pulses so you can increase the pulse rate and intensity as labour progresses. There is also a Boost button to press during contractions.
Make sure your skin is clean and dry, the pads won’t stick if you’ve used oils or moisturisers.
